Panama City Beach Man Arrested for Molesting Child

May 03, 2019

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a beach man on charges he molested a child under the age of twelve. Family members of the victim contacted the BCSO to report the molestation.

A forensic interview was conducted with the victim at the Gulf Coast Children’s Advocacy Center. BCSO Criminal Investigators learned from the victim that she had gone to a home to visit a friend. Joaquin Herrera answered the door and told her the friend was not home. According to the victim, he then invited her into the home and she went inside.

The victim told investigators Herrera offered to pay her $5 to put on a bathing suit. When she did, he took pictures of her with his phone, moving the bathing suit to the side so his pictures would be of her genitals. He then molested her.

Contact was made with Herrera, age 29, at his residence on Walosi Way, Panama City Beach. He admitted the juvenile had come to his door, but stated he sent her away. A search warrant was served on the residence, and investigators located the same bathing suit the juvenile described.

Herrera was arrested and charged with Sexual Battery on a Child Under 12 and Promotion of Sexual performance of a Child. He was taken to the Bay County Jail.
