Special Investigations

The M.A.D. (Methamphetamine Drug) Unit is comprised of 14 sworn Officers and one clerical support personnel.  These Officers come from the Bay County Sheriff's Office, the Panama City Police Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Panama City Beach Police Department, the Lynn Haven Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The MAD Unit was built from necessity to combat the ever growing problem of homemade Clandestine Methamphetamine Laboratories.  poster1.jpg (55372 bytes)These Clandestine labs are highly toxic, highly explosive and dangerous operations for which extensive training is required to dismantle.  Investigators have seen the results of labs that have exploded and the serious burns incurred by the individual who was performing the "cook" of Methamphetamine at the time.  The Drug Enforcement Administration teaches these investigators what to look for and how to dismantle a Clandestine lab whether it is in an active "cook" situation or in a benign state, ready to be moved to another location.

The investigators of the MAD Unit are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ready to respond to a potentially explosive situation when a Methamphetamine lab is exposed.   The MAD Unit was formed October 16, 2003.  The MAD Unit is in full swing and is ready to take on any Clandestine Methamphetamine lab any time, day or night.  Sheriff McKeithen and the members of the MAD Unit have dedicated themselves to the eradication of Methamphetamine labs in the Bay County area.  Our motto is "Don't Meth' With Us" and we mean it!
