The Bay County Sheriff's Office believes in the youth of Bay County.  Today's children are tomorrow's leaders.  The primary goals of the Junior Deputy and Explorer programs are to provide a better understanding of Law Enforcement and the justice system in the United States and to promote a better understanding between our youth and all Law Enforcement agencies in the county.

Junior Deputies are from age 10 to 13 years old (or in the 7th grade).  All Junior Deputies must maintain a 2.0 (C) grade point average in school.  Members must also attend weekly meetings held at our clubhouse, (across from Oakland Terrace Elementary School) which are held each Thursday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

Guest speakers and demonstrations supported by tours of local criminal justice facilities acquaint Junior Deputies with a look at REAL Law Enforcement work.  Classes are also provided in BB/pellet gun training, gun safety, first aid, water safety, CPR, court room procedures and basic Law Enforcement.

Junior Deputies also develop a sense of civic participation.  Every year the Junior Deputies contribute over 3,000 hours to the community.  Some of their projects are: March of Dimes, American Heart Association, Project 25, Triathlon, Teen Court, Finger printing details, Bay County Juvenile Justice Council, School Fun Days and many others.
