Sheriff Frank McKeithen is the elected Sheriff of Bay County, Florida serving over 170,000 Bay County residents, along with tens of thousands of visitors to the world’s most beautiful beaches.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of 539 employees with an annual budget of over $35 million, and is proudly referred to by Sheriff McKeithen as the best law enforcement agency in the state of Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

Sheriff McKeithen is a Republican Sheriff and has over 39 years of service in Florida law enforcement.  He was appointed Sheriff of Bay County in 2003 by Governor Jeb Bush, and subsequently won re-election in 2004 and was unopposed in 2008.

Prior to his service as Bay County Sheriff, he was the Sheriff of neighboring Gulf County after his appointment by Governor Lawton Chiles in 1995.

Sheriff McKeithen served the majority of his early law enforcement career from 1976 to 1995 with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy, investigator, Lieutenant of the Special Investigations Division and Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division.

During the course of his career, Sheriff McKeithen has been involved in leading numerous major homicide and drug investigations.  In his tenure as Sheriff, he has been a leader in Bay County and in the State of Florida in addressing issues ranging from illegal immigration to the manufacture of methamphetamine and the investigation of prescription pill mills.  He was actively involved in recent legislative efforts to address the use of pseudoephedrine in the manufacture of methamphetamine, through the successful implementation of a statewide database on the sale of pseudoephedrine.

He was also one of the first law enforcement executives to recognize the dangers of synthetic drugs, known as bath salts, leading a statewide effort that made these substances illegal.  Sheriff McKeithen was the recipient of the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in the State of Florida in 1993, and was recognized as an outstanding alumni with Gulf Coast State College in 2011.  He is married to Diane Phillips McKeithen, and they have two sons, a daughter and several grandchildren.
