April 21, 2007 Ruth Sasser, PAS For Immediate Release 747-4700, ext. 2117 420 Celebration Ends in Arrest A local 420" celebration ended in the arrest of 29 people on numerous drug charges. The Special Investigations Division of the Bay County Sheriffs Office, the Panama City Police Department, Springfield Police Department, Cedar Grove Police Department, and the State Attorneys Office joined resources and executed 11 search warrants on April 20, 2007, a day recognized as the biggest drug day of the year. Although narcotics officers are not sure how the tradition of 420" started, it has evolved from a day touted as a holiday for marijuana smokers, into a special day to celebrate the use of all illegal drugs. Last evening 11 search warrants were executed resulting in 44 felony charges and 37 misdemeanor charges, 17 of which involved marijuana. Two juveniles were arrested and 27 adults on numerous drug charges including Trafficking in MDMA or Ecstasy, Sale of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, Maintaining a Drug House, Manufacture of Crack Cocaine, Cultivation of Marijuana, Possession of Crack Cocaine and Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and Trafficking in Hydrocodone. Drugs seized included Marijuana, Ecstasy, Hydrocodone, Zanax, Crack Cocaine, and Powder Cocaine. Other charges includes Violation of Probation, Resisting With Violence, and several individuals also had outstanding warrants. Three firearms were also confiscated. One residence was holding a 420" party as narcotics officers entered the home. A shrine to Bob Marley had been erected in one corner of the living room, and a local cable channel known as G4 was on the television. In the bottom left hand corner of the tv screen, the G4 channel carried a Happy 420" graphic and announcements promoting the use of marijuana were interspersed during regular programming.
