Unsecured Gun in Home Leads to Accident

The Bay County Sheriffs Office responded to a call this afternoon in reference to a shooting to 7807 North Lagoon Drive, Panama City Beach. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a three year old child with a gunshot wound to the neck. EMS arrived and Investigators from Criminal Investigations were called to the scene.

Investigators learned that the child, Stonewall Caddick, DOB 8/7/03, was visiting his Grandmother and her boyfriend here in Bay County, when he found a loaded firearm within the home and accidentally shot himself in the neck. Also visiting within the home was Eric Conners, DOB 12/1/85, who stated he had purchased the firearm off the streets about two weeks ago.
Conners had been told by the other adults in the home to get rid of the firearm but did not do so.

Officials have learned that Conners has active warrants on him in Massachusetts on charges of Carrying a Dangerous Weapon (x2), Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of Drugs, and Disorderly Conduct. Officers with the Falls River Police Department have been contacted and have decided not to extradite Connors back to Massachusetts.

Conners has been arrested and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Failure to Properly Secure a Firearm.
