Man Arrested on Bigamy Charges When Wife Number Two Meets Wife Number One

Investigators with the Bay County Sheriffs Office received a complaint from a woman recently who claimed to have married a man in 2004 unaware of the fact he was still married to another woman.

Martha Weed Dumstorf made a complaint to the BCSO after she says she discovered her husband also had a wife in Melbourne, Florida. Martha Dumstorf states she met George William Dumstorf in 2004 and married him that year in Bay County, Florida. They have lived together as man and wife in Hernando County, Florida.

Investigators discovered a marriage license issued to George Dumstorf in 1960 and no evidence Dumstorf ever divorced his first wifeStephanie Dumstorf. Martha Dumstorf stated that her husband always told her he worked for the Federal Government to explain his extended absences from home. She also claims that Dumstorf told her he had divorced Stephanie many years ago and he also showed her an email he claimed was sent to him by one of his children that informed him that Stephanie Dumstorf had recently died while working in Haiti for a church organization. Martha Dumstorf became aware that Stephanie Dumstorf was still alive and married to George after a business partner of Marthas told her the truth.

Although the Dumstorfs never permanently resided in Bay County, the complaint and the warrant had to originate in the county where the crime occurred. Dumstorf, DOB 10/11/38, 21813 Hardcastle Road, Springhill, Florida was picked up by Hernando County SO on a warrant for Bigamy from Bay County and transported to Bay County yesterday November 16, 2006. Dumstorf was booked into the Bay County Jail and faces first appearance today.
