MAD Unit Makes First Arrests On New Law

The cooperative efforts of the Bay County Sheriffs Office, the State Attorneys Office, and local pharmacies have led to the arrest of two individuals found in violation of a new law pertaining to the purchase of products containing pseudoephedrine. Investigators followed the two as they went from pharmacy to pharmacy buying boxes of the cold product Sudafed to be used, investigators believe, in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

According to the new law, which went into effect October 1, 2006, pharmacies must place any product containing pseudoephedrine behind the counter and keep a log of anyone who purchases the products. Each person is limited to two boxes of the product. Recently, Sheriff Frank McKeithen sent out a letter to local pharmacies informing them of the new law.

Danielle L. Turner, DOB 1/9/83, of 379 Appaloosa Way, Chipley and Kenneth Charles Texton, DOB 10/30/62, also of 379 Appaloosa Way, Chipley, were observed purchasing the Sudafed and then were followed to a local paint store where they purchased other chemicals commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Both Turner and Texton were charged with Attempted Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Listed Chemical (pseudoephedrine), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
